NVCC, FAA To Host Free Aviation Seminar
WATERBURY â Naugatuck Valley Community Collegeâs Aviation Science Program and Admissions Department and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Safety Program will sponsor a free aviation safety education seminar at the college on Monday, October 16, from 7Â to 9 pm.
The seminar, which will be held in the Café West room of the college, will include a presentation on the FAAâs Runway Incursion Reduction Program. Runway incursions are incidents that create collision hazards or results in loss of separation with aircraft taking off or landing. In a recent four-year period, the FAA reports runway incursions have increased 72 percent to approximately 230 annually in the United States.
During the seminar, NVCC and FAA representatives will discuss ways pilots and air traffic personnel can reduce these occurrences. It will include a review of fundamentals of this crucial safety issue, scenarios that have caused runway incursions and a plan to eliminate the hazard.
The NVCC aviation science program provides current pilots or college students the educational background and training required to seek a career in aviation as a professional pilot. This course of study could also serve as the first two years of a four-year bachelorâs degree in aviation science for students interested in transferring to a four-year institution.
