Carrie, The Floating Cow, Is Off To London

BETHEL — Carrie the Carousel Cow, one of two cow sculptures created by Bethel Arts Junction members for inclusion in this past summer’s Cows on Parade exhibition in New York City, is going to London.

According to CowParade™ 2000 officials, Carrie will be traveling to London to help kick off Great Britain’s version of “Cows on Parade.” The exhibition features life-size fiberglas sculptures of cows in one of three positions — standing, sitting or grazing — each uniquely decorated by artists or artists’ groups.

The New York City event featured over 500 cows set up throughout the five boroughs of New York City, and the majority of the works of art were auctioned at the end of their display to raise funds for regional charities.

Carrie will be one of four American cows who will be riding on a float through the streets of London this fall. The standing cow sculpture was designed to look like a carousel figure, based on ideas by the artists Phyllis Boger and Bob Evading, members of Bethel Arts Junction.

The second cow created for this summer’s exhibition was “Tiffany,” a sitting cow that was retouched to look like a stained glass creation. At the conclusion of the public exhibition, Tiffany sold for $60,000. BAJ members also worked on the presentation of Tiffany, whose design was the work of Adele Moros.
