RSVP Seeks Volunteers
DANBURY â RSVP, the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, is planning to hold a recruitment and recognition program at the Newtown Senior Center on Wednesday, October 27, at 12:30 pm.
One of the largest volunteer groups in the nation, RSVP is made up of volunteers who are over the age of 55. They deliver meals to homebound people, tutor children, renovate homes, teach English to immigrants, transport elderly and disabled people to medical appointments â whatever their skills and interests lead them to do.
The Northern Fairfield County RSVP has more than 500 members from the seven towns of Bethel, Brookfield, Danbury, New Fairfield, Newtown, Redding and Ridgefield. Part of the National Senior Service Corps, RSVP is a non-profit organization sponsored by the Western Connecticut Chapter of the American Red Cross and funded by a combination of grants from the federal and state government, as well as from the United Way.
Members of RSVP and persons interested in finding out about its volunteer opportunities are invited to come to the event at the Newtown Senior Center. Receptions also will be held at the Bethel Senior Center at 10 am on October 19 and the Brookfield Senior Center at noon on October 22, and in the other towns on other dates. To make a reservation to attend any of the events, call 792-8200.
