Sandy Hook Organization for Prosperity (SHOP) hosted its annual concert Rocking the Hook on Saturday, September 28, and celebrated the grand opening of the new Heritage Park at 7 Glen Road. For the first time in SHOP history, according to one organizer, the concert was held all in one place, the recently completed Heritage Park.

SHOP President Michael Burton is incredibly grateful, he said, for the hard work and dedication by everyone to Heritage Park and the SHOP’s vision over the past ten years. The ribbon cutting took place during a break between musical performances.

Event Coordinator Maribeth Hemingway said she was thrilled to see everyone enjoying themselves at the concert. She was happy to celebrate “the community of Sandy Hook,” she said Saturday afternoon.

The concert is a chance for the community to celebrate each other, and also served as an opportunity to raise funds for Heritage Trail, a future addition that will feature a museum in the streets similar to Danbury's Main Street.

Event goers enjoyed the day dancing to Blonde & Grey, Dan's Garage Band, Northern Bred Country Band, and Green Eyed Lady. The beer tent was staffed by two young men, Noah Winzig and Christian Araujo, employees at Newtown Savings Bank.

Jeff Wallace, regional vice president of Live Nation, said, "After being involved here 10 years, I'm blown away to see the vision come true...Everybody should be proud of the work done here."

Despite occasional rain, dedicated attendees did not shy away. Instead, they grabbed the tables and brought them under the new pavilion to keep dancing. It was fun for all ages. —Bee Photos, Cross
John Wisnieff attended the event and showed off his ribbon skills. Wisnieff brought his flower sticks along, too. He put a smile on everyone’s face as he walked through the crowd, twirling ribbons and magical, jumping, spinning sticks.
A few vendors also participated in Rocking The Hook including the crew from Hilltop Kitchen. From left is Ayden Paulos, Sattie Persuad, and Bill Piccirillo.
