The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will host Anda Styler, painting in acrylic, Wednesday, October 11, at 7:30 pm. The demonstration will take place in the lower level of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole). The public is welcome, free of charge.

Ms Styler, who lives in Sherman, began painting in acrylics at the age of 16. From there she also went on to discover oil painting. Acrylics, however, remain her favorite medium, which she has worked in for more than 40 years.

She attended Parson School of Design, graduating in 1983. Ms Styler has had many accomplishments in the art world, including interviews with both local and national publications, such as American Art Collector, Who's Who in America, Country Gardens magazine, Victoriaartspeak nyc. magazine, and

She has received numerous awards and recognition for work as a painter. Her paintings and techniques are published in two books by North Light Publications. Her works are currently represented by several galleries in and around New England.

In July 2007 she created four large paintings that are part of a permanent collection purchased by Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. In January 2008, two of her paintings were juried into the Paint America 100 Artists.

Her works are also included in the North Light Best of Acrylic Painters (2013). In April 2017, the new book from North Light Publications, Capturing the Light, also featured her work.

Ms Styler paints both on location and in her studio. She continues to explore subject matter, but is especially drawn to the magic of the landscape, and places she travels to, the hidden places that are not often seen.

Working in shadow, light, vibrant color, mood, and sky, she hopes to bring excitement to her work that reflects the world around her and captures the unique and lasting beauty that only nature reflects.
