Occupation: I am a professional photographer and professional videographer and editor. My business is Photo and Video Art Works. I work with my husband, and we specialize in corporate photography, especially medical and architectural lately. But we do personal photography, too. Iâm the official photographer for the Second Governorâs Horse Guard and for the Newtown Arts Festival.
Family: My husband Bill and I have been married for 29 years. Bill has four sons, Tom, Michael, Peter, and David. My family is all out in Illinois.
Pets: We have two cats, Fur Boy and Squeak, both rescue cats from The Animal Center. Iâve actually done a series of photographs of Fur Boy around town.
How long have you lived in Newtown? Iâve lived here for 30 years.
What do you like to do in your free time? I practice yoga, ride my bike, and hit the farm markets. I should be gardening, but it is always the eternal battle between editing or gardening. I serve on the board for The Animal Center, and Iâm on the board of the Working Womenâs Forum. I handle all of the press relations. I do read, mostly to turn my head off at night.
What have you read lately? I just finished reading Capturing the Light by David Ziser. Itâs a technical book about off camera flash. It definitely puts me to sleep!
Do you have a favorite travel destination? My most favorite place, which Iâd like to visit again, is Kenya, Africa. I went many moons ago. I loved seeing the animals in their natural environments. We stayed in a different place nearly every night, so you never knew what you were going to see. But for the last six years, our destination seems to be Maine, anywhere along the water.
What is the best thing about Newtown? My list is as long as my arm! The jewels of Newtown are the property where the Horse Guard is, and the Fairfield Hills property. The open sky and vistas are so peaceful. The trails behind the Horse Guard are wonderful. I donât think a lot of people know those trails exist. Lake Zoar is another thing in Newtown that I donât think people know about and appreciate. Then thereâs the tree lighting in Ram Pasture. It captures the elusive spirit of Christmas.
What is the biggest change youâve seen in Newtown over the years? Sandy Hook. When we moved here, it was pretty dilapidated. Now itâs like a beautiful little town unto itself. It has its own restaurants and night life, and itâs own tree lighting. Itâs wonderful.
Who has been the greatest influence in your life? Two people: my mother and my husband, on how one should live his or her life. Both have encountered life-altering medical setbacks, and continued to make the best of what life handed them. I admire them both.
Do you have a personal philosophy? I really value honesty. Iâm honest with people and I try to treat people in the way I would like to be treated.
Do you have a guilty pleasure? Sneaking away from editing to ride my bike would be one. And I know a lot of people say chocolate, but for me itâs fresh veggies, fresh-baked bread and butter, and homemade pies that are my weaknesses.
