Fledgling Marathoner Holds Cancer Benefit At Pub 25

Newtown resident Mark Landolfi said a recent fundraiser to help send him to the New York City Marathon to run with a group of American Cancer Society supporters was a great success.

“With the help of local businesses and volunteers we were able to raise $900 for the American Cancer Society,” Mr Landolfi said following his September 18 event at Pub 25 Grille. “The Determination Team that I am running for through the ACS in the ING New York City marathon is currently on track to setting the record for the most money raised, not just locally, but nationally and in the history of the Determination program. This is a monumental feat and I feel honored to be a part of this great team of athlete fundraisers.”

Mr Landolfi credited a number of local businesses with boosting the success of his fundraiser by donating gifts for a raffle that was held.

Donors included Good Ideas – A Parent Teacher Store, Butcher’s Best Market, Villarina’s, A Bead of Roses, D’Orazio Sisters Bakery, Franco’s Pizza, Yankee Wine & Spirits, Z Place for Fitness, Stop & Shop, Sal e Pepe, The One-Eyed Pig, Ricci’s Salon/Hero Barber Shop, The Little Gym, and Pub 25.

“A special thanks to Dawn Contreras for donating Mary Kay gift bags and my sister Kristen Landolfi for donating the Nine West gifts, gift cards, and tickets to the observation deck at Rockefeller Center,” he said. “I’d also like to thank John Voket for volunteering his time to come out and MC the event, he truly did an amazing job. Pub 25 graciously hosted the event, and Phyllis Gavin was very helpful in planning and managing the benefit and I can’t thank her enough.”

With just a little over a month before the marathon on November 4, Mr Landolfi told the patrons and supporters gathered at Pub 25 that his training “will enter the most difficult phase in preparation of running the 26.2 miles through New York City.”

Mr Landolfi has to date raised 60 percent of the $3,500 he has committed to donate to the cause. Anyone who would like to donate can go to the website determination.acsevents.org, click on the link to Support An Athlete, and enter Marc Landolfi.
