Clarification

The headline of a September 28 report on the town’s end of year surplus reported a $1.3 million surplus total before end of year transfers were made. Those transfers primarily covered a shortfall between the total of health benefits provided, and funds available to cover retired teacher health claims in the 2011-12 fiscal cycle. The net surplus left in the fund balance was $970,000.
