Celebrating

Sandy Hook

To the Editor:

I am writing to help spread the word about Passport to Sandy Hook. The Sandy Hook Organization for Prosperity (SHOP) will be holding our second annual Passport event on Saturday, October 6, from 11 am until 4 pm in Sandy Hook Center. Passport to Sandy Hook is not a fundraiser; it is a day to celebrate our quaint little Village of Sandy Hook. Sandy Hook Village is home to a wide variety of shops, eateries and organizations. It has been my honor to join these hardworking, dedicated small, local business owners and various organizations in their quest to revitalize our beautiful little corner of town.

These local, small business owners work hard individually everyday to make their businesses successful; as participating members of SHOP, they are working just as hard collectively to make Sandy Hook a thriving community we can all be proud of.

Passport to Sandy Hook is a fun-filled day, with live music by John Voket and the Bobby Donaldson Band, a bounce house for the kids, special guests like Baro the police dog, fire trucks, live broadcasts on i95 and much more. It is an opportunity to get acquainted or reacquainted with all of the great businesses and organizations in “The Hook.” The concept is simple; visit each of the participating merchants and have them stamp your passport while enjoying the many different promotions being offered like face painting, pumpkin decorating, samples, presentations and, of course, food. Once you have all of the participating merchants stamps, turn your completed passport in at the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue truck and you are entered to win. This year’s prize package is worth over $1,700. The grand prize includes two groups of ten tickets to see the Bridgeport Sound Tigers from the Newtown Savings Bank suite at Harbor Yard

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our major sponsors, Newtown Savings Bank and Andy Sachs of Deals Around Town, for their very generous support. SHOP would also like to ask each of you if possible to bring a nonperishable food donation to help us “Stuff a Truck” for the Faith Food Pantry in Sandy Hook

Passport to Sandy Hook is a showcase for the merchants and organizations of Sandy Hook; please come down to “The Hook” enjoy the day, listen to music, eat, drink, stroll around town and get your passport completed. You will have fun, but more importantly you will be supporting small, local businesses working together to make Sandy Hook the very best community it can be.
