The Demon Deacons improved to 7-0-0 overall, 2-0-0 in the ACC. It is their best start in program history. A Marcus Tracy (NHS â05) shot struck at the 10-yard line was blocked and rebounded by Evan Brown who set Zack Schilawski up for the first goal. âWe knew they were going to step up their attack in the second half and we were ready for them,â Tracy was quoted on the WFU sports web site (http://wakeforestsports.cstv.com/sports/m-soccer/). âThey really opened up their defense more so we were able to move forward and have more chances as well.â Tracy has two goals and four assists on the year.
[After dropping to 2-4-1 with a 2-0 loss to Boston College, the Fairfield University womenâs soccer team topped Providence (1-0) and Wagner (6-0) to improve to 4-4-1 on the season. Sophomore striker Casey Frobey (NHS, â06) has three goal on the year, the last coming in the rout of Wagner.
[Two wins and a tie in its last three games has the Manhattan College womenâs soccer team at 3-3-3 on the year. Alex Konneker (NHS, â06) has a goal, scored in a 1-1 double-overtime draw with Fordham University on September 9, while starting six of the nine games for the Jaspers.
[Joe DeVellis (NHS â06) was named Offensive Scout Team Player of the Week for the 3-2 Ithaca College football team, which will host the Norwich Cadets this Saturday at Butterfield Stadium.
[The No. 13 Montclair State University menâs soccer team, the defending New Jersey Athletic Conference champion, defeated Rutgers University-Camden, 2-0, in a conference game last Saturday to improve to 9-1-1 overall and 4-1-0 in the NJAC. Junior back Brian Miles (NHS â05) has a goal and three assists while playing in all 11 games for the Red Hawks.
[Following a back and forth first half, Haverford College picked up a pair of second-half goals to get by the Gettysburg College womenâs soccer team, 2-0, in Centennial Conference womenâs soccer action at Clark Field on Saturday. The Bullets dropped to 2-6 overall and 1-1 in league play on the season. The Bullets nearly reached the scoreboard on a corner kick, but Brett Howleyâs header hit the bottom of the cross bar and the rebound attempt by Tara Gaston (NHS â06) was blocked by a Ford defender. It was her first shot of the season. The Bullets are 3-7-0 and Gaston has started all 10 games.
[After dropping their first seven matches of the season, the Emmanuel College womenâs volleyball team won two in a row, but has since dropping its last five to fall to 2-12 on the year. Diana Grimaldi (NHSâ 06) has appeared in 35 games and has registered 23 kills with a team-high 154 assists, eight service aces, 60 digs and 10 blocks.
[Josh Rouse (NHS â05) appeared on special teams for the Michigan State University football team in its 37-34 loss to Wisconsin last weekend in front of 82,164 at Camp Randall in Wisconsin, the 10th-largest crowd in school history. The University of Wisconsin football team is home to Dan Cascone (NHS â05), a backup lineman who did not appear in the game.
[Nick Mentessana (NHS â05) has appeared in 10 games for the University of Missouri-Rolla menâs soccer team, which moved to 3-7-1 following a 0-0 draw with Truman State.
[Charlie Baldour (NHS â07) finished seventh at 27:16 at the 13th annual Keene State Cross Country Invitational on September 29. For the Owls, it was their ninth Invitational title in the last 10 years.
[The Bucknell University womenâs swimming & diving team will open the 2007-08 season this weekend at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County. Abby Atkinson (NHSâ 06) returns for the Lady Bisons after being one of 28 members of the squad to be named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll last year. Atkinson boasted a 3.25 GPA as a mechanical engineering major.
