Frost on the Pumpkin Hunter Pace

Did you know that 300 horses are coming to Newtown! Octover 28 is the date of the annual Frost on the Pumpkin hunter pace and every year some 300 horse trailers arrive at Mount Nebo Road to compete in a cross-country race.

In a hunter pace, horses and riders in teams of two or three race against the clock (a pace for the course has already been set and the team closest to that mark is the winner). Teams cross varied terrain and jumps for prizes. The course is 8 to 10 miles long with road, streams and logs to negotiate.

Now, the Frost on the Pumpkin is always a favorite because many riders and horses dress-up in elaborate costumes to celebrate Halloween. Local residents are welcome to watch this event on Mount Nebo Road. Teams leave the starting line every three minutes and awards are presented upon return of the final rider.
