Letter of Endorsement

To the Editor:

I am writing to encourage support for Kathryn Hamilton Fetchick, a candidate for the Board of Education.

Kathy is one of our own. She grew up in Newtown, graduated from Newtown High School in 1983 and earned a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering at University of Connecticut. She now resides in Newtown with her husband and two children, Garrett and Madison.

It is wonderful to have one of our young people return to take a leadership role in our town and educational system. Kathy has attended the Board of Education meetings for the past two years, is member of the Sandy Hook School PTA and a representative to the Board of Education Budget Committee, and a member of the Newtown PTA Council studying high school space needs. She was appointed recently by the first selectman to the Newtown Strategic Long-Range Planning Committee.

She is well-versed in the town and the educational needs of our youngsters. I recently heard her informed opinions on a number of local issues and I was impressed.

She is now a stay-at-home mom, but she was product manager and software engineer at Data Viz Inc and a project manager and software engineer at United Technologies Corp.

I hear so often how my contemporaries moan that there are no younger people to take volunteer positions in organizations, churches, and town agencies. Well, here is a bright, interested, and talented lady just waiting for the opportunity. Let’s give her the chance.
