Jean J. Elkins

Jean J. Elkins, 73, of Newtown, died October 1, at Danbury Hospital.

She was born in Stratford and had been a longtime Newtown resident. She had worked as a manager/cook for the Newtown school system and was known as “Gramma Jean” by schoolchildren from pre-school through high school.

Survivors include her beloved husband, James Elkins Jr.; three sons, Arlton Monsanto of Newtown, Harold Monsanto of Belleville, Kan., and James Elkins, III of Marion, N.C.; a daughter, Valerie Taft of Enfield; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held October 4 at the Lesko-Miner Funeral Home, 155 Main Street (Route 25), Monroe. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
