Found Property

 

Police and firefighters responded to an all-terrain vehicle on fire near the intersection of Hanover Road and Echo Valley Road about 1:30 pm, September 25.

The person who had been driving the vehicle had left the scene before emergency service workers arrived, according to police.

Police describe the vehicle as a red 1985 Honda, model ATC110-F.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police at 426-5841.

 

 

High School Theft

 

Police report that someone broke into two vehicles parked in the front lot at Newtown High School sometime during school hours October 1.

Stereo gear was stolen from both vehicles. The estimated cost of damage and loss is $1,200.  Police ask anyone with information about the incident to contact them.

 

 

Four MV Charges

 

Police charged a local man with four motor vehicle violations about 2 pm September 28 following an incident near the intersection of South Main Street and Cold Spring Road.

Police said motorist John Engel, 39, of 3 Lovells Lane, who was traveling southbound on South Main Street, passed a group of autos which police had stopped in a road work area.

Engel passed the autos on the left and went past a police officer who was directing traffic, causing the policeman to jump out of the way to avoid being struck, police said.

Police stopped Engel and charged him with reckless driving, improper passing, failure to drive to the right, and operating and unregistered motor vehicle.

Engel is scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court October 8 to answer to the charges.

 

 

Horse Vs Motorcycle

 

Motorcyclist Mark Galkiewicz, 32, of 195 Berkshire Road, who was driving a 1997 Kawasaki EX motorcycle westbound on Great Ring Road about 2:20 pm September 25, encountered a horse which had run out onto the street from the driveway at 12 Great Ring Road, police report.

The horse ran into the path of the motorcycle and Galkiewicz dumped the motorcycle on the ground, avoiding striking the equine, police said.

Galkiewicz was transported to Danbury Hospital to be treated for injuries, police said. The horse, which is owned by a Southbury resident, wasn't injured, police said. The motorcycle, which was totaled in the crash, was towed away.

Police verbally warned Galkiewicz for failure to carry a valid automotive insurance identification card.

 

 

I-84 DWI

 

State police report they charged motorist Richard W. LaPointe, 32, of Fairfield with driving while intoxicated about 1:18 am September 24 on the Exit 11 off-ramp of Interstate-84 in Sandy Hook.

After processing, LaPointe was released on bond for an October 4 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

 

 

Interstate DWI

 

State police report a vehicle driven by Helder Domingues, 23, of Danbury failed to drive in the right lane of two lanes on westbound Interstate-84 near Exit 11 about 2:13 am October 2.

State police pulled over the motorist and lodged charges of driving while intoxicated and failure to drive in the established lane.

After processing, Domingues was released for an October 12 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

 

 

Spin Out

 

Motorist Wayne Augustine, 50, of Bristol, who was driving a 1992 Chevrolet eastbound on Interstate-84 near Exit 11 about 6 pm September 26, changed lanes and spun out, striking barrier railing several times before coming to rest off the left road shoulder, state police said.

Augustine was not injured. State police issued him an infractions ticket on a charge of making an unsafe lane change.

 

 

Honda Vs Tire

 

State police report motorist Sunickumar Ranchhodbhat Patel, 42, of Stratford, who was driving a 1999 Honda sedan westbound on Interstate-84 near the Parmalee Hill Road overpass about 10 am September 29, collided with a tire which came from an unknown place.

 

 

Exit 10 Crash

 

 Motorist Irene R. Heim, 44, of Somerville, Mass, who was driving a 1997 Chevy Geo about 8:20 am October 4, was leaving eastbound Interstate-84 on Exit 10 and came to a stop at a red light at the end of the off-ramp, state police said.

The Geo was then struck from behind by a 1997 Hyundai Elantra driven by Ethel R. Andino, 22, of Waterbury, state police said. There were no injuries. State police said Andino was traveling too fast for conditions.
