Expedition Hike: Redding To Easton
Expedition Hike: Redding To Easton
Â
The Nature Conservancyâs Devilâs Den Preserve is offering a guided, moderately strenuous hike of approximately 15 miles along the Saugatuck Valley Trails system on Sunday, October 17, from 7:30 am to 4 pm.
Carpooling from the Weston entrance of Trout Brook Valley to the start at the West Redding Firehouse, hikers will descend from Redding through Weston into Easton. On the way they will pass some extraordinary scenery, which will include majestic rock cliffs and towering hemlocks, Saugatuck Falls, the view from the Great Ledge during lunch, scenic reservoir trails, the gorge at Devilâs Glen, and the wonders of newly protected Trout Brook Valley.
While the pace should not be grueling,15 miles is a long distance, and hikers should be prepared. Participants should wear hiking shoes, pack enough snack food, and bring water.
Registration is required and limited, so interested hikers are urged to call The Den office at 226-4991 as soon as possible.
This is a great opportunity for hikers to get to know the ins and outs of some of the trails within the extended Saugatuck Valley with experienced guides. Hike leaders will be trained natural history guides Jonathan Brochstein, Steve Jacober, Ann Maio, and Cia Marion. In case of extreme bad weather, the walk will be canceled.
