ON THE ROAD WITH SHANNON HICKS

Tickets for a show that was quietly announced (right here in this column!)

last month -- STING at the Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford on November 24 --

will be going on sale Saturday, October 9. I don't have details on ticket

prices this week, but get those dialing fingers ready and have the credit card

on hold.

YES is also coming to the Oakdale on November 28. The tickets on-sale date has

yet to be announced, but the date appears firm.

ANI DiFRANCO is in town this weekend. Tickets are still available for

DiFranco's show at The Bushnell on Friday, October 1. There is no opener for

the 8 pm show, which continues the performer's support of her latest Righteous

Babe Records release, Up Up Up Up Up Up . All tickets are $24.50 and if you

want to have them waiting for you at the window, call 860/987-5900 or

888/824-2874 immediately.

The Sandy Hook trio TREBLEHOOK has a pair of shows coming up, with the first

one this weekend. Brian Morgan (lead guitar and vocals), Andy Spencer (guitar,

banjo and vocals) and Alan Morgan (guitar, vocals and harmonica) will be at

Kafe International in Cheshire on Friday, October 1. For details on that show,

call the cafe directly at 272-4276.

Then on Friday, October 8, the trio will be right here in town, performing at

G.P. Cheffield's beginning at 8:30. For details on that show, call 270-6717.

Cheffield's is at 97 South Main Street (Route 25) in Newtown, and there is no

cover to get in for the music.

Saturday night, Lazlo's Arts Cafe in Monroe will present a seven-band roster

of performers during "An Evening of Music." Beginning at 6 pm on October 2

will be sets by local talent in jazz, blues, folk and rock. Admission is $2,

and food for purchase will be plentiful. The cafe is at 179 Main Street (Route

25), in the small plaza next to Skate Time.

Performers Saturday night will include jazz guitarists GEORGE LESIW and GARY

GRIPPO, folk performers GWEN OWEN and MARK MOLLICA; folk/blues performer KENT

ALDRICH; SHELLYE VALAUSKA, the winner of the 1999 New Haven Advocate Readers'

Poll Grand Band Slam singer-songwriter honors; solo acoustic guitarist ROBERT

MESSORE; folk/rock performer MILK; and alternative rockers WATER BACON. For

additional information, the cafe can be reached at 459-8889.

The Chicago quartet LOUDMOUTH says one look at the current charts and it's

obvious we are in the midst of a hard rock revival. Loudmouth's sound is a

blend of classic rock, with hints of Zeppelin and Sabbath in there. The band

is still on the road this month and next, nine months after the band's first

single ("Fly," from the Varsity Blues soundtrack) was released and seven

months after its self-titled debut album.

Recent fall tour dates have been supporting ZAKK WYLDE, which continues until

October 8. This weekend, the band is in Waterbury at City Limits, for one of

its final shows with Wylde before joining the current MEGADETH tour.

Retro band MOPPIN SAUCE called this week to mention two shows planned for this

month. The first will be this weekend -- Saturday, October 2 -- at

Shenanigan's in South Norwalk. The second is on October 30, when the crew

returns to Fat Daddy's in Watertown.

Tuxedo Junction in Danbury will be hosting two events for this month's big

holiday. On the eve of Halloween, the club will have a party featuring the

music of HARVEY & THE WALLBANGERS. The following night the club is going all

out with its All Hallows Eve Rock Fest, with music by PETER BANKS, MASTERMIND,

JOE STUMP, CRUCIBLE, SOUNDSCAPE, AFTER THE FALL and SCOTT McGILL.

For teens looking for their own night out, Tuxedo Junction is also planning

something special for that other holiday this month. Because schools will be

closed on Monday, October 11 for Columbus Day, Tuxedo Junction has planned a

No Alcohol High School Dance Party for Sunday, October 10. No one over the age

of 18 will be admitted into the club that night, and of course no alcohol will

be served. All area teens are invited, not just Danbury residents.

For those of you who like to really plan ahead, The Webster Theatre in

Hartford already has a show booked for July 24, 2000. Ironically, the band

performing that night is called THE SLACKERS.

Doesn't sound to me like these folks are slacking...
