5K Run For Kids With Cancer

NEW HAVEN – The Tommy Fund for Childhood Cancer is sponsoring “Run for the Kids,” a 5K road race, on October 17, at 10 am at the Connecticut Tennis Center on Yale Avenue in New Haven, to benefit pediatric cancer research and support pediatric cancer programs at Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital.

“Last year about 650 runners participated and helped us raise $25,000 to help children with cancer,” said Peter Parente, race committee chair.

A half-mile fun run for children will be held prior to the 5K run. Everyone who participates in either race will be eligible to win airline tickets for two to anywhere in the continental United States. The Outback Steakhouse in Orange will provide lunch for all runners.

The first 600 runners to sign up will receive an all-cotton long-sleeve T-shirt with a design created by two pediatric cancer patients: Lucy Hardisty, 16, of Woodbury and Monique Authelet, 13, of New Fairfield.

The cost to pre-register for “Run for the Kids” is $12 for adults and $8 for children under age 10. On the day of the race, the cost to enter the race will be $15 for adults and $8 for children. To pre-register, or for more information, call 203/795-9966 or 203/393-3441.
