Audubon Center Community Conservation Programmer To Cover ‘Native Vs Invasive Plants’
Town & Country Garden Club will host a program, “Native vs Invasive Plants,” on Wednesday, October 9, at 7 pm.
The presenter will be Allison Middlemass, a naturalist, environmental educator and artist.
The program will take place at Newtown Senior Center, 8 Simpson Street. There is no charge to attend and all are welcome.
Middlemass grew up in nature and a wildlife-loving family who cultivated her passion for wildlife conservation from a young age. She works as the senior coordinator of community conservation programs at the Bent of the River Audubon Center in Southbury. Her role includes being an educator for the center as well as building partnerships with communities in underserved urban areas such as Waterbury.
Those attending her presentation will learn that not all plants are good for the environment. Middlemass will discuss how invasive plant species damage the ecosystem and how to lessen their impact.
She will also talk about the benefits of planting native plants, where to find them, how to plant them, and when to do so.
