Slambovian Circus To Open 2019-20 Flagpole Radio Cafe Season
Flagpole Radio Café will return to Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street, with five new shows beginning on Saturday, November 9, at 7 pm.
The guest artist will be the dynamic alt-roots rock band The Slambovian Circus of Dreams.
Tickets are $35 and on sale at flagpoleproductions.org.
The Slambovian Circus of Dreams began in Sleepy Hollow, N.Y., in the late ‘90s as an art school project. Known for their electrifying live performances, the band has toured nationally and abroad, performing moody but upbeat alt-roots rock with an eclectic instrumental arsenal, including accordion, cello, mandolin, and theremin.
Pioneers of the Americana genre, the band’s music is equal parts Washington Irving and Woodstock, tapping a broad palette of styles described as “hillbilly Floyd,” “folk-pop,” “alt-country,” “roots-rock,” and “surreal Americana.”
Having headlined major music festivals and venues across the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, the Slambovian Circus of Dreams enjoys a devoted and passionate following. Lead singer-songwriter, guitarist, and harmonica player Joziah Longo is joined by Sharkey McEwen on guitar and mandolin, Tink Lloyd (accordion, cello, etc.), Bob Torsello (bass) and Felipe Tores (drums) to create a captivating music that is at once uplifting, empowering, and a lot of fun.
In addition to November production, Flagpole Radio Café producers are also happy to announce that there will be Flagpole Radio Café shows on December 7, February 8, March 21, and May 9. Lucy Kaplansky will be the guest artist appearing in December.
Producer Barbara Gaines remarked, “we’re so happy that we are able to present Lucy Kaplansky this year after all. This will be a special December show.”
Fellow Producer Martin Blanco added, “We’re also excited about the other outstanding artists who will be joining us this season. We can’t say who they are right now, but we look forward to officially announcing the rest of the season in the upcoming weeks.”
The Flagpole Radio Café is an evening of engaging music and compelling comedy performed by an ensemble of local artists. The ensemble comprises musicians Jim Allyn, Rick Brodsky, Howie Bujese, Cadence Carroll, Chris Durham, Dick Neil, and Francine Wheeler, and actors Martin Blanco, Barbara Gaines, Kate Katcher, and David Wheeler.
