NYS Presents "Homework Without Tears"
(with cut)
As the school year gets into full swing, Newtown Youth Services is sponsoring
a timely and popular workshop, "Homework Without Tears," one of a series of
Lee Canter presentations, on Thursday, September 16, from 7 to 9 pm, in the
Memorial Room of Newtown, NYS, 41-A Main Street.
Is homework a struggle in your home? Do you find it difficult to motivate your
children to complete their assignments? According to this program, "Studies
indicate that homework, when completed correctly, can have a substantially
positive effect on academic achievement."
Parents will learn necessary skills to ensure their children complete homework
to the best of their ability. Topics to be covered are why children do not do
homework; how to develop a non-negotiable attitude toward homework;
establishing a proper study environment at home; how to help children manage
their study time; how to make sure children do their best work on their own,
motivating children to do homework, and what to do when children do not do
their homework. Results include better home-school cooperation, increased
academic success for students, and less classroom time spent on homework
problems.
The evening's presenter will be Jeff McHugh. An educator for 27 years, Mr
McHugh has worked as a consultant for Lee Canter and Associates since 1990. He
currently serves as the dean of students at Fairfield Woods Middle School.
Newtown Youth Services encourages parents to attend this informative program.
Homework provides parents with a daily opportunity to communicate to their
children the importance they place on their education. To register for
Homework Without Tears, call the NYS office at 270-4335.
