National Academy Of Design Explores Prague Architecture
(with 1 cut)
NEW YORK CITY -- The National Academy of Design will exhibit "Prague
Architecture Throughout the Centuries" through December 5.
Prague holds a special position among European cities due to the diversity and
profundity of architectural riches drawn from contributions made by Czech,
Italian, German, French and Dutch artists and architects.
The exhibition focuses on the city's architectural development over the last
600 years -- from the Romanesque and Gothic expressions of the medieval era;
the Renaissance and Baroque influences of the beginning of the modern era; the
"national revival" of the mid Nineteenth Century, an eclectic and fertile
period in which Neo-Renaissance styles existed alongside Art Nouveau
creations, and further, to a post-War independent form of Modernism.
Over 60 architectural models, prints, watercolors, sculptures and house
emblems document these dynamic developments. Exhibition highlights include a
grouping of watercolors by Nineteenth Century painter Vacla Jansa, sculptures
from the baroque period, and models and depictions of Prague including the
Corpus Christi Chapel, St. Wenceslas Chapel, Prague castle and the Little
Quarter.
The National Academy of Design is located at 1083 Fifth Avenue. Telephone,
212/369-4880.
