You Can Call It "Camp Lash"!

The Parks & Recreation Department's annual summer camp is now officially known
as "Camp Lash" -- named in honor of Newtown resident Howard Lasher.
Mr Lasher, a floor trader on the American Stock Exchange, has raised more than
$60,000 over the past eight years for the town's campership fund. That money
is used to pay the registration fee for those youngsters who would otherwise
be unable to take part.
Mr Lasher was honored at the edge of the Dickinson Park pool Tuesday
afternoon. First Selectman Herb Rosenthal and Parks & Recreation Director
Barbara Kasbarian were on hand for the ceremony. Mrs Kasbarian said Mr
Lasher's efforts have enabled some 300 youths to take part in camps,
after-school programs and sports leagues.
"We never have to turn anyone away," Mrs Kasbarian said.
Mr Lasher said much of the money comes from the generosity of members of the
American Stock Exchange.
Mr Lasher, who grew up on the East Side of New York City, was able to attend
camp as a youth because someone was generous enough to sponsor him.
Mr Lasher is owner of the Lasher Group.
The recommendation to change the camp name came from Mrs Kasbarian with Mr
Rosenthal following through with the designation.
