Ernest A. Kaechele
Ernest A. Kaechele, 84, of Woodhull, N.Y., died August 30 at Hurlers Personal
Care Home in Westfield, N.Y., after a long illness.
He had been owner of Misty Vale Garden Center in Sandy Hook for many years and
was a building contractor.
Survivors include his wife, Irene E. Kaechele, of Woodhull; a niece, Karen
Krafcsik of Newtown; and a nephew, Tommy Kaechele of Washington, Conn.
Services took place September 2 at H.P. Smith & Sons, Inc., funeral home in
Woodhull. Interment was in Woodhull Cemetery.

Fred Manfredonia
Fred Manfredonia, 91, of Coram, N.Y., died September 6 in Mather Memorial
Hospital, Port Jefferson, N.Y. He was the father of Fred Manfredonia of Sandy
Hook.
Mr Manfredonia was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on July 8, 1908, a son of Fred and
Margaret (Bellarosa) Manfredonia. The husband of the late Julia Manfredonia,
before his retirement he was an accountant/bookkeeper for Canada Dry in
Maspeth, Queens.
Mr Manfredonia also is survived by a daughter, Julia Austin, of Coram, N.Y.,
and four grandchildren: Christopher Manfredonia of Sandy Hook, Kimberly Bandak
of Indianapolis, Ind., Christine Manfredonia of Sandy Hook, and Scott Austin
of Coram.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at the St Gerard Majella Roman
Catholic Church. Funeral arrangements were by the O.B. Davis Funeral Home in
Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.

Thomas Mangines
Thomas Aquinas (Tim) Mangines, 50, passed away on August 30, in the Boca Raton
General Hospital, Boca Raton, Fla. He was the brother of Beth Daly of Sandy
Hook.
Mr Mangines grew up in Trumbull and graduated from Trumbull High School, where
he participated in football and baseball. He was a graduate of Fairfield
University and a veteran of the US Coast Guard.
For the past 20 years, he lived in Boca Raton and Delray Beach, Fla. While
living in Florida, he was a stock broker and financial advisor, primarily with
Kidder Peabody and Paine Webber in the Boca Raton office. An avid golfer, he
was a member of the Boca Raton Hotel and Resort Club, the Addison Reserve Club
and Boca Teeca Golf Club.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa Guzzetta Mangines and their son, Nicholas;
his parents, Attorney and Mrs Thomas E. Mangines (formerly Phyllis Brennan) of
Bridgeport; his brothers, Joseph Mangines of Milford, James Mangines and his
wife Liane of Fairfield, and Brian Mangines and his wife Mary of Boca Raton,
Fla; two other sisters, Pam Kraft of Greenwich and Karla DelCarvo of London,
England; his brother-in-law Bill Daly of Sandy Hook; several aunts, uncles,
nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was held at the Church of the Ascension in Boca Raton on
September 2. A local memorial service will be held at the convenience of his
family. In lieu of flowers, friends in Florida were requested to contribute
the American Cancer Society.

Peter G. Allen
Peter G. Allen, 48, of Stratford, died on September 2 in Fairfield. He was the
brother of Theodore Allen of Newtown.
Born in Stamford, Mr Allen had been a Fairfield resident for most of his life.
A graduate of Roger Ludlowe High School, he graduated with honors in 1997 from
Briarwood College. He had most recently been employed by Oxford Health Care.
Mr Allen was a devoted and loving father to his six children, who considered
him their best friend. His survivors include his daughters, Taylor and Abbey
Allen; four sons, Woody, Keene, Morgan and Talbot Allen; his mother, Nancy
Rowe Allen of Fairfield; three other brothers, Timothy Allen of Clinton, N.J.,
Parker Allen of Fairfield, and James Allen of Fairfield; a sister, Taffy
Palenski of Nantucket, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews. He was
predeceased by his father, George G. Allen.
Funeral services and interment will be private. There will be no calling
hours.

Philip J. Koerner
Philip J. Koerner, Sr, 83, of Fairfield, died September 6 in Cape Coral, Fla.
He was the father of Jane Pierwola of Newtown.
Mr Koerner was born in Portchester, N.Y., and resided in Fairfield for most of
his life. A US Army veteran of World War II, he was a postal clerk at the
Bridgeport Post Office until he retired. For the past 20 years, he was a
starter at Smith Richardson Golf Course.
In addition to his daughter, Mr Koerner is survived by two sons, Philip
Koerner, Jr, and his wife, Virginia, of Cape Coral, Fla. and Glenn Koerner of
Fairfield; a brother, Donald Koerner of Peekskill, N.Y.; three grandchildren,
Michael Pierwola, Kevin Pierwola and his wife, Tisha, and Christopher
Pierwola. He was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie Quinn Koerner.
Calling hours were 3 to 5 pm and 7 to 9 pm on Thursday, September 9.
The funeral was set for 9:20 am on September 10 from the Shaughnessey Funeral
Home, 50 Reef Road, Fairfield, and 10 am at St Thomas Aquinas Church for a
Mass of Christian Burial. Interment in Oaklawn Cemetery.

Frank L. Ballerini
Frank L. Ballerini, Jr, 54, of Fairfield, died September 4 in Yale-New Haven
Hospital, New Haven.
Mr Ballerini was born in Bridgeport and was a lifelong area resident. He was
an operating engineer for the Bargas Development Company and served in the US
Army Reserves.
Survivors include two sons, Christopher J. Ballerini and his wife, Amy, and
Brian L. Ballerini; and their mother, Linda Ballerini, all of Newtown; his
parents, Frank L., Sr, and Olga Bonetti Ballerini of Fairfield; a sister,
Pamela Allen and her husband, Donald of Ansonia; his fiancee, Patricia Hanson
of Southbury; and two nephews, Donald and Michael Allen.
The funeral was held on September 9 from the Larson Funeral Home, 2496 North
Avenue, Bridgeport to the Assumption Church, Fairfield, for a Mass of
Christian Burial. Interment was private.

Nellmarie Conway
Nellmarie Conway, 78, wife of the late Frederick "Bill" Conway of Ashlar of
Newtown, died peacefully in the early morning hours of September 4.
Mrs Conway was born in Minnesota on October 3, 1920, a daughter of the late
Erwin and Claire (Zeidler) Sutter. She was a former resident of Ft Lauderdale,
Fla.
Mrs Conway was an accomplished electronic technician and was also an avid fan
of the game of golf.
She is survived by her sister, Margaurette Fairfield of Fairbanks, Alaska. She
also is survived by the following nieces and nephews: Marilyn and Gene Rosen
of Newtown; Susan and Kenny Risse of Fairbanks, Alas.; Judy and Dale Dunning
of Mckinney, Tex.; and Liza and Lenny Paglialunga of New Canaan, as well as
several grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a future date. Contributions in her memory
may be made to Ashlar of Newtown, Toddy Hill Road, Newtown, CT 06470.
Arrangements were by Honan Funeral Home, 48 Main Street, Newtown.

Eleanor Mucherino
Eleanor M. Mucherino, 92, of Waterbury, died September 5 in St Mary's
Hospital, Waterbury. She was the sister of Bernice Hubina of Newtown.
Mrs Mucherino was born in Stratford and resided in Bridgeport for most of her
life before moving to Woodbury in 1986.
The widow of Anthony Mucherino, she was a retired packer from Bassick Co.
In addition to her sister, she was survived by three sons, Anthony J.
Mucherino and his wife, Lillian, Southbury; Eugene J. Mucherino of Glade Hill,
VA; and Daniel E. Mucherino and his wife, Florence, of Marshfield, Vt; a
brother, Joseph Barry of Waterbury; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren;
two great-great-grandchildren; her daughter-in-law, Audrey Mucherino of
Woodbury; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter,
Lucille Barrow, and a grandson, Eugene Mucherino.
Funeral services were held on September 8 in the Cyril F. Mullins Trumbull
Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Road, and in Our Lady of Good Council Church.
Interment was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Ethel Wilcox
Ethel Wilcox, 74, of Berkshire Road, Sandy Hook, died September 4 at Danbury
Hospital following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Everett
Wilcox.
A native of Danbury, she was the daughter of the late Jesse and Lottie Monroe
Gardner. She had been a member of the Advent Christian Church and the Women's
Home and Foreign Missions Society, and the TWB's at the church.
She had been employed at the soda and luncheonette counter at the former
Woolworth's store on Main Street, Danbury, and later worked at American Family
Crafts, and at Bradlee's on Route 6.
Mrs Wilcox was a 1943 graduate of Danbury High School. She was a member of
Chapter 1847 of the American Association of Retired Persons.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ethel "Tunnie" and Joseph
Pudelko of Danbury; her sister, Ruth Betz of Bethel; her companion of the last
15 years, Al Trocola, with whom she made her home; and many nieces and
nephews.
A funeral service took place September 8 at The Tomlinson Homestead in
Danbury.

Henry Fiscella
Henry A. Fiscella, 89, husband of the late Mary (Giordano) Fiscella of 27 The
Boulevard, Newtown, died September 2 in Danbury Hospital.
Mr Fiscella was born in New York City November 23, 1909, a son of the late
Joseph and Geraldine (Zamello) Fiscella. He was a longtime resident of Garden
City, N.Y. and lived in Newtown the past two years.
Mr Fiscella was a graduate of St John's University and St John's University
School of Law. For over 50 years he was an attorney in the legal department of
the Travelers Insurance Company.
Mr Fiscella is survived by two sons, Robert A. Fiscella of Newtown and Henry
A. Fiscella, Jr., of Fairfield; four grandchildren, Tara, John, Andrew, and
Darcy Fiscella of Newtown; and one niece.
Funeral Services were held September 7 at 9:30 am from the Honan Funeral Home,
58 Main Street, Newtown, and in St Rose Church for a Mass of Christian Burial.
Interment was in St Rose Cemetery.

Mary Anna Koziar
Mary Anna Koziar died September 2 at the Lutheran Home in Southbury at the age
of 89. She was the mother of Lewis T. Koziar of Newtown.
She was the wife of the late Louis P. Koziar and lived at 11 Mill Plain Road
in Danbury. Mrs Koziar was born in Danbury June 10, 1910, daughter of the late
Thomas and Jeanette (Cardallo) LaPine. She received her education in Danbury
schools and was a homemaker devoting her life to her family and home.
In addition to her son, she is survived by two daughters, Phyllis E. Bieber,
Danbury; Joan A. Durkin of Hamden; grandchildren, Scott and Tara Durkin, Megan
Koziar and Kevin Bieber and Jennifer Frisch and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held at the Grace Christian Fellowship, Route 6 in
Newtown on September 6 with Pastor Berry Frederick officiating. Burial was in
St Planton Cemetery.

Eugenia Strashart
Eugenia Kursch Strashart, 86, of Bridgeport, died Saturday, September 4 in the
Jewish Home for the Elderly in Fairfield. She was the mother of Diana Dudeck
of Newtown.
Mrs Strashart, wife of the late Carl Strashart, was born in Lithuania and was
a Bridgeport resident most of her life. She was a retired employee of Clark
Metal Products of Fairfield, and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church,
Bridgeport.
In addition to her daughter in Newtown, she is survived by another daughter,
Evelyn Schultze of Gainsville, Florida; two sons, Richard Strashart and
Raymond Strashart, both of Trumbull; a sister, Bertha Burton of Fairfield; 14
grandchildren; 10 great-grand children; one great-great granddaughter; and
several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held on September 8 in the Larson Funeral Home, 2496 North
Avenue, Bridgeport. Burial was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull.

Dennis W. Bloom, Jr
Dennis W. Bloom, Jr, 14, of Bethel, died from injuries sustained when he was
hit by a train while crossing tracks in Bethel on Friday, September 3.
He was the son of Dennis W. Bloom, Sr, of Sandy Hook, and Linda Cornell of
Bethel.
He was born in Sidney, New York, on July 11, 1985. He was a freshman at Bethel
High School and a member of the Teen Center in Bethel.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his paternal grandparents, Mr
and Mrs Herbert Bloom of Danbury, and his maternal grandparents, Mr and Mrs
William Cornell, of Bethel; his sister, Amanda Bloom of Bethel, and his
half-brother William F. Bloom of Sandy Hook; his godparents, Robert and Sandra
Murrah of New Milford; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Funeral services were held at the Fist Congregational Church in Bethel on
September 7 with the Rev Sheldon Smith officiating. Burial was in Elmwood
Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements were by the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street,
Danbury.

Willis Speck
Willis Speck, 98, died September 5 in Ashlar of Newtown. He was the husband of
Catherine Kemp Speck of Newtown.
Mr Speck was born in Burket, Indiana and was a resident of Trumbull for 32
years. Before he retired, he was an engineer in the Bryant Division of
Westinghouse Electrical Corp.
Mr Speck was a World War I Navy veteran, a member of VFW Post 10059, and a
charter member of the Tashua Senior Men's Club.
In addition to his wife, to whom he was married for 60 years, he is survived
by his daughter, Judith LaBree of Englewood, Florida; his sister, Lydia
Anderson of Anderson, Indiana; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren,
and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were private. Arrangements were handled by the Cyrill F.
Mullins Trumbull Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Road.
Memorial contributions may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
