Tennis Court Reconstruction Slated

The tennis courts at both Treadwell and Dickinson parks were scheduled to

undergo major reconstruction this week.

The nine courts are in sub-par shape, according to many of the players who use

them. Many are considered unusable as cracks wind their way from the baseline

to the service line and on up to the net. The project is estimated to cost

$86,000 and will take about three weeks to complete.

Courts 1 and 2 at Dickinson Park, the town's oldest courts, were reconstructed

14 years ago. However, the other seven have only been re-painted and re-lined.

"When you rebuild the courts, you're actually filling in all the cracks and

putting a two-inch layer of asphalt over the top," explained Parks &

Recreation Director Barbara Kasbarian.

Connecticut Asphalt has been hired to do the actual reconstruction, while

Dalton Contractors will re-paint the lines.
