Occupation: I am a sales consultant with Eder Brothers, Inc., a wine and
spirit wholesale company that was started in 1933 (right after the repeal of
Prohibition). Among other items, Eder Brothers sold the first case of Smirnoff
and Canadian Club in the United States. I have been there for 22 years and
sell to restaurants and wine and liquor stores in Fairfield, New Haven, and
Litchfield counties. I have a bachelor of science degree in marketing from
Fairfield University.
How Long in Newtown: We have lived in Newtown for 13 years. My wife, Debbie,
and I grew up in Monroe, and our parents still live there. This enables us to
remain very close to our families and is also quite convenient for holiday
traveling.
Family: Debbie and I have been married for 18 years. We have two sons, Sean,
13, and Brendan, 11.
Pets: We have one dog, a very personable Wheaten Terrier named Lucky.
Hobbies: I enjoy reading, walking, cooking, golf, and watching Sean and
Brendan play baseball, basketball, and football.
Favorite Books and Authors: I enjoy reading Tom Clancy, Robert Ludlum, and
John Grisham. One book that I particularly enjoyed is Tuesdays With Morrie by
Mitch Albom. It's a phenomenal book. It is a book that really puts things into
perspective and one that I believe should be required reading for all. It
talks about what's really important in life.
Favorite TV Show: I don't watch much TV, but one show I think sends a great
message is 7th Heaven .
Organizations: I am active in the St Rose Parish community as well as at St
Rose School. I belong to the Ancient Order of Hibernians and am a member of
the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels and the Canadian Club Society. Though
technically not an "organization," one of my highlights of the week is Sunday
night when we get together with the Arsenault and DeLuca families from Newtown
for dinner. We take turns hosting, and the guys usually do the cooking. While
Sunday night for many represents the weekend drawing to a close, I look
forward to it knowing it will be quality time with family and good friends.
Favorite Vacation Spot: My favorite vacation spot is Mousam Lake in Shapleigh,
Me. Debbie's grandparents started vacationing there in the 30s, and it has
become a family tradition. I have been going there for over 20 years and
Debbie, Sean, and Brendan have grown up on the lake. We have many wonderful
memories there.
Personal Philosophy: When making important decisions, I try to consider the
input of three people whose opinion I admire greatly: 1) Larry Andersen (my
favorite baseball player, Larry pitched in the Major Leagues for many years
and is now a pitching coach for the AAA Philadelphia Phillies) who said,
"You're only young once but you can be immature forever." 2) Robert Fulgham,
author of the book Everything I Ever Really Needed to Know I Learned In
Kindergarten , who said, "Always take the scenic route and buy lemonade from
any kid who's selling." 3) Jim Reilly, my Dad and best man at my wedding, who
frequently advised me as I was (and still am) growing up, "Be on time and keep
your promises." Each day I become more aware that everything I have and am is
a gift from God. While it is sometimes difficult to understand why things
happen, I have confidence that everything happens for a reason and that if I
trust in His plan, then I will enjoy God's blessings.
