Vote For Rob Blanchard For State Senate
To the Editor:
Rob Blanchard, Democratic Candidate for State Senate, is running to create a better future for all of Connecticut’s residents. Rob has extensive experience with state government and has a fresh outlook. By contrast, Senator Tony Hwang seems to vote along party lines, and not in our best interests.
Looking through the website Votesmart.org, six bills that were taken up by the state senate made an impression on me. The voting record of our present Republican senator stands out.
SB1: Establishes transparency requirements in education addressing school climate and improving teacher diversity. Senator Hwang voted nay. It was signed into law by Governor Lamont, 2023.
SB 351, a bill in support of the Community Investment Fund Account, “to foster economic development in historically underserved communities across the state.” Senator Hwang voted nay, April 2024.
SB222: Amends paid family and medical leave statutes in Connecticut, to expand those who “may be able to access paid leave benefits by providing a mechanism for those who work for the state’s Native American Tribes to participate in the program as well as by expanding coverage to victims of sexual assault (Sec. 2-7).” Senator Hwang voted nay, April, 2024.
HB6004: Establishes Independent Inspector General to Investigate Police Shootings and Illegal Uses of Force. Senator Hwang voted nay. It was signed into law by Governor Lamont, 2020.
HB5003: “Increases Education Funding By Changing Formula for Funding.” Senator Hwang voted nay. It was signed into law by Governor Lamont, 2023.
SB 409: Prohibits wage theft from contracted workers. Senator Hwang voted nay. It was signed into law by Governor Lamont, July 2024.
As the above examples show, Senator Hwang had multiple opportunities to make his vote count for improving District 28 and our state. He voted nay. It’s time for a change. Vote for Rob Blanchard for CT State Senate.
