Girls’ Volleyball Team Wins Matches

Newtown High School’s girls’ volleyball team continued its winning ways with road victories over Bunnell of Stratford on September 25, Bethel two days later, and Notre Dame-Fairfield on October 1, making it five in a row heading into a Friday, October 4, visit to New Milford at 6 pm.

The Nighthawks defeated Bunnell 3-0 (25-5, 27-25, 25-17) behind 21 aces. Gianna Galassi had six aces and Emily Daoust and Allie Nowacki each contributed four. Nowacki had seven kills and a block; Galassi had five kills, one block, and a dig; Addy Cordova logged two aces, one kill, and four digs; and Daoust and Taylor Leighton each had two digs.

Rylan Kennedy logged an ace, three kills and a pair of digs; Ava Lombardo racked up 21 assists to go along with an ace and a dig; Sarah Hubner had two aces and two digs; Noelle Meadows had two blocks; Lauren Murphy tallied an ace, two kills, and a block; Cassie Pickering registered three kills and a block; and Sara Heinen had a kill and a dig.

Newtown beat Bethel 3-1 (25-18, 13-25, 25-17, 25-21). Nowacki recorded two aces, eight kills, and two blocks; Galassi had three aces, seven kills, and two digs; Heinen had seven kills and one block; Lombardo compiled an ace, four kills, two blocks, 37 assists, and three digs; Daoust had three aces and two digs; and Murphy picked up an ace and trio of kills.

Against Notre Dame the Hawks were victorious 3-0 (25-13, 25-23, 25-15). Elena Burdo had five of Newtown’s 14 aces. Nowacki had four aces, five kills, two blocks, and a dig. Galassi registered a pair of aces, seven kills and five digs; Murphy had seven kills; Lombardo logged 20 assists to go along with two blocks; and Cordova and Daoust both had an ace and five digs
