Alexander Fraser, 91, of Newtown, passed away on September 27 at Danbury Hospital.

Al was born in Bridgeport on March 13, 1933 to James and Elizabeth Fraser. He grew up in Fairfield, and was a graduate of Roger Ludlowe High School. He continued his education at the University of Bridgeport and the Bridgeport Engineering Institute. As a young man, he served in the Bridgeport Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol, joined the Army Reserve, and then served as a communications specialist with the US Army Signal Corps in Korea.

Al was an avid aviation enthusiast, earning his pilot’s license through Monroe Flying School in 1955. He and a friend together purchased their first plane, a Stinson 108-3, which they kept at Monroe Airport.

Al worked at Vishay Vitramon in Monroe for over 47 years, beginning in 1955 as the Supervisor of Planning and Scheduling and eventually attaining the position of Manager of Information Technology. He also served as the Vitramon pilot, flying a Bonanza for many years.

A longtime resident of Monroe, Al was very involved in giving back to his community. He served as the President of Monroe Chamber of Commerce in 1973 and later served on the Zoning Board of Appeals. He helped to organize and incorporate the Police Athletic League in Monroe in 1979, serving as its first Board Chairman. For over 43 years, Al was an officer and trustee of the Barton L. Weller Foundation. Eventually, Al moved to Newtown, where he lived until his death. While in Newtown, he served as a member of the Newtown Lions Club.

Al will be remembered for the kindness, wisdom, stories, and laughter he brought to his loved ones and friends. His legacy of humility, hard work, and goodwill will live on in each and every person that had the pleasure of knowing him.

Al is survived by his significant other of over 15 years, Donna Greene of Middlebury; brother Gordon Fraser of Fairfield; daughter Deborah Montague of Cooper City, Fla.; and son Jeffrey Fraser and his wife Lotte of Belgium. He is also survived by his grandchildren Kristin Montague and Kelly Montague of Syracuse, N.Y., and Fox Fraser of Belgium. Al was a devoted stepfather to Chris, Jon and Kathy.

He was predeceased by his sister-in-law Carol Fraser.
