To the Editor:

I am writing in support of Michelle Embree Ku, who is running to represent us in the State House of Representatives.

Michelle has been working for Newtown and its residents for more than a decade. She was elected to the Board of Education and served as Chairperson, was then elected to the Legislative Council, and currently serves on the Board of Selectmen.

Michelle understands how the legislative process works. She is a skilled problem solver who knows how to listen to all sides and reach across the aisle for the solutions that best serve our community. In these divisive times, we need someone in Hartford who will put Newtown and its residents above partisan politics.

Michelle will fight for a health care system that actually works for us, that provides for family planning, a better insurance marketplace, and quality hospitals — and that addresses the public health threat of gun violence.

Michelle will fight for education — better air quality in our schools, learning that leads to opportunities, and funding for special education. She has also been involved in the district’s modification of school start times, heating and ventilation issues, and school safety and security.

Michelle will advocate for the health of our environment by encouraging smart development, better solid waste management, the use of green resources, accessible housing, and a livable community inclusive of all residents.

We need a representative who puts us first. Vote smart on November 5. Vote for Michelle Embree Ku. We need her in Hartford!
