'Mozart, Melot And Mums' To Help Fund Work Of Kevin's Community Center
Kevin’s Community Center, Newtown’s free, nonprofit medical clinic, will conduct its eighth annual major fundraiser, “Mozart, Merlot and Mums,” on Saturday, October 10, from 4 to 7 pm.
This year’s community gathering featuring a wine tasting, live music and local fare will take place at Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street.
Kristin Adams Santilli, a well known soprano, will be performing at the KCC fundraiser.
Ms Santilli received great reviews from those who attended last year’s event.
Following Ms Santilli’s performance, there will be an array of tantalizing wines to taste provided by Mary Kay Brown of Organic Vintages, Jeff Oetjen of World of Wine and Spirits, Kathy Mendes of Sandy Hook Wine & Liquors, along with Eder Brothers and Hartley and Parker. The food is being provided by the Taweh family, founders of Kevin’s Community Center.
A silent auction will also be held with such items as golf outings, vacation getaways, fine jewelry, and gift certificates from fine area restaurants.
Tickets $45 per person, and are available online via the KCC website (kevinscommunitycenter.org). Tickets will also be sold at the door the afternoon of the fundraiser.
Goldman Sachs has graciously offered to match every dollar raised at the fundraiser up to $100,000.
All proceeds will benefit Kevin’s Community Center, Inc, the non-profit, free medical clinic founded in 2002 by Dr and Mrs Z. Taweh of Newtown, in memory of their son Kevin. Their mission is to provide free primary health care for persons over the age of 18 who are uninsured or underinsured and have limited financial resources.
There has been additional need for healing in the community in recent years, which makes a free medical clinic all the more significant. With this increase in responsibility comes the need for additional support.
Kevin’s Community Center, at 153 South Main Street, currently serves all towns covered by the Newtown Health District (Newtown, Bridgewater and Roxbury).
Hours of operation are every Wednesday from 1 to 5 pm. The clinic is also open on Saturdays from 9 am until noon for all Newtown residents for blood sugar testing, blood pressure screening, flu shots, yoga and round table discussions on relevant health issues.
