Scholarship Association Harvest Wine Tasting

With the cool weather of autumn comes the ripening of fruits. The trees are sporting beautiful colors; the air is crisp and the fall season is prime time for grapes. The thought of harvesting grapes can excite the palate of many wine connoisseurs, anticipation of waiting for the new crops to be bottled.

Anxious wine tasters were able to taste samples from ten different wine distributors at the Second Annual Harvest Wine Tasting sponsored by the Newtown Scholarship Association. The event was held September 27 at the Rock Ridge Country Club Distributors, where distributors provided their choices of top wines to the many in attendance.

If the wine was not enticing enough, guests were treated to a very tasteful silent auction table with many wine baskets, trips, dinners, flower arrangements, and a selection of sports and music memorabilia from Mike Riccio Sports. People’s United Bank sponsored the event along with New England Wine & Spirits and Sandy Hook Wine & Spirits.

The Newtown Scholarship Association is a nonprofit organization providing financial assistance to promising Newtown students. Originally, a single scholarship of $50 was awarded. Now, more than 60 scholarships totaling more than $200,000 are awarded annually to June graduates and also continuing aid to undergraduates. Since 1937, nearly $3 million has been awarded to Newtown students.
