Hand Tool Event, October 3-4
Woodworkers of all abilities will have a chance to try new tools and learn new skills at a special Hand Tool Event next weekend.
The free event will offer fans of woodworking a chance to use a wide array of hand tools and learn techniques such as simple honing methods for razor sharp blades, and tuning a hand plane for optimal performance.
The event will be held Friday, October 3, from noon to 6 pm, and Saturday, October 4, 10 am to 5 pm. It will take place at the Taunton Press facility, 191 South Main Street.
Ongoing demonstrations at interactive stations will help visitors discover valuable techniques, learn simple sharpening techniques, how to fine-tune a hand plane for great performance, and what floats are and where they excel.Â
Guest presenters will include Mike Pekovich, from Fine Woodworking, who will demonstrate the craft of cutting dovetail joints; Matt Kenney, from Fine Woodworking, demonstrating the use of shooting boards and miter jacks; Bob Van Dyke, the director of Connecticut Valley School of Woodworking, who will demonstrate the proper use of saws and chisels through mortise and tenon joinery; noted author and furniture maker Chris Becksvoort, who will demonstrate hand planing; and John Economaki, founder of Bridge City Tool Works, who will have a display of hand tools to try.
