Fun Is Part Of The Plan At Flanders Fall Festival

WOODBURY — On Sunday, October 5, Flanders Nature Center & Land Trust will host its 28th annual Fall Festival from 10 am to 4 pm at the Van Vleck Farm Sanctuary on Flanders and Church Hill Roads.

There will be a variety of entertainment by performers of live animals, magic, music, drumming, and singing. Over 50 exhibitors will be displaying arts and crafts. In addition, artisans will give ongoing demonstrations in wood craving, spinning, chair making, jewelry making and bullwhip making.

Magician Peter James, who has specialized in entertaining children for over 18 years, will be performing his slights-of-hand. Ms James performs yearly for the United Way, Boy Scouts of America, and is a member of The Society of American Magicians and The International Magician Society.

A “Rainforest Reptile Show” will be offered, where children can meet and interact with a variety of species ranging from insects, frogs, snakes and lizards to four larger animals including the American alligator. Everyone will have the opportunity to handle both the snakes and alligator after the program.

Lorrie Schumacher with “Talons”, a bird of prey experience, will exhibit even more wildlife. Their program features amazing flight demonstrations of raptors such as owls, falcons, kestrels and hawks.  

Local musician Tom Hanford will be performing his Musical Menagerie, a wonderful of animal songs that is sure to captivate everyone young and old. His program will combine music, story telling and Mr Hanford’s colorful painted masks. He is a visual artist, musician, children’s performer and teacher.

The Flanders Fall Fest, held rain or shine, is free to current members and their family.  For nonmembers, the cost is $8 per adult and $4 per child ages 6-12; children 5 and under are admitted free.
