Family Dinner Night
Family Dinner Night
To the Editor:
The Newtown Parent Connectionâs Family Dinner Night was a resounding success thanks to the combined efforts of so many in our wonderful community. Our sincerest appreciation is extended to: Newtown Prevention Council, Newtown Youth & Family Services, Newtown Police Department, Newtown Deli, Ferris Creamery, Stop & Shop, Big Y, Shop Rite, Domâs Nursery, Reed Intermediate School (especially Scott and the custodial staff), and Andreaâs Bakery. In addition to the 250 people who enjoyed a wonderful ziti dinner and ice cream dessert, we must thank DJ Kevin Koschel and his wife Beth; and our magician, Marty Steinberg. Officers Len Penna and Andy Stinson wowed the crowd with a riveting demonstration of our own local canine crime fighter, Baro!
A special thank you, also, to the Newtown Parent Connection executive board: Chris Lyddy, Joan Ponsky, Terry Laslo, Rob Ryder, Temple Whitaker, and Roseanne Loring. More than 20 volunteers came out to assist with set up, serving, and cleanup, making the evening run exceptionally smoothly. Our tireless workers: Jim Loring, Jack Laslo, Connie Eaton, Kathy Moonan, Kathy OâConnor, Wendy Whelan, and Gladys Pisani deserve extra recognition! Very special appreciation goes to Judy Blanchard, Beth Agen, Mike Kehoe, Amy Mangold and all of the talented students who did the face painting!
Newtown Parent Connection is excited to invite the public to our first educational forum of the season, âRaising Children of Characterâ to be presented by Professor Emeritus Dr Kevin Ryan from Boston University. Dr Ryan founded the Character Education Department of the university and speaks nationally and internationally about raising our children to make good moral choices. We are thrilled to welcome him to Newtown on Tuesday, October 14, from 7 to 9 pm, at the Newtown Middle School auditorium. This program is geared to parents and grandparents who have children of all ages and stages of development.
Come out to hear Dr Ryan and stay connected with the Newtown Parent Connection whose mission is to educate and empower the community in the prevention of substance abuse and to embrace families in crisis.
