A Diamond Anniversary
Marshall and Martie Williams celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on August 7, 2008, with a family party at the home of their son Daniel Williams.
Martie was formerly Catherine Martha Noonan of Bridgeport. Marshall served in the United States Air Force in World War II and was trained as a pilot for the B-29. When the war ended in 1945, he took a summer job at GE in Bridgeport where he met Martie, who worked there as a secretary. Marshall returned to college a short time later, and then spent 42 years in the tool design and engineering field with Harvey Hubbell Inc in Bridgeport.
The Williamses have lived in Newtown for 49 years. Together they were members of the Rocking Roosters Square Dance Club for 28 years. Martie is active in their church, St Rose of Lima, also volunteering at Ashlar Convalescent Home. After raising their five children, she worked for several lawyers in the Bridgeport area as a legal secretary.
Marshall has continued with his passion for flight by volunteering at least twice a week at the New England Air Museum where he and others have successfully restored a B-29 that is housed and displayed there. He now is working on a helicopter.
Both octogenarians, Marshall and Martie still deliver meals on wheels once a month.
From their children â Larry and Nancy Williams, Ben and Patti Struski, Mark Williams, Dan and Maureen Williams, and Roy and Lisa Williams â there are 15 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
