Monitor Hill Crash

Motorist Carrie Danner, 21, of 5 Monitor Hill Road was driving a 1993 Ford Taurus southward on Monitor Hill Road about 6 pm September 22, when she lost control of the auto and struck a mailbox at 3 Monitor Hill Road, police report.

Danner was not injured. Police issued Danner an infraction ticket for making a restricted turn.

Riverside Road

Police report that motorist Thomas Mead, 33, of Southbury was driving a 2000 Ford F-350 dump truck eastward on Riverside Road about 8:30 am on September 18, when he stopped and then backed up near 52 Riverside Road.

 Mead backed up the truck into a 1992 Saab 900 convertible, which had been traveling eastward behind him, police said. Motorist James Davis, 50, of 6 Pheasant Ridge Road, who was driving the Saab, tied to avoid a collision, but the vehicles made contact, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued both drivers written warnings for failure to carry an automotive insurance identification card. Police also issued Mead a written warning for unsafe backing.

South Main Accident

A collision between a sport-utility vehicle and a commercial van occurred at the intersection of South Main Street and Meadow Brook Road in Botsford about 6:15 pm September 23, police report.

Motorist Benjamin Grant, 59, of Monroe, who was driving a 1999 Nissan Pathfinder northward on South Main Street, made a left turn to enter Meadow Brook Road, police said. In making that turn, the Nissan entered into the path of a southbound 1996 Ford E-250 van driven by Petroslav T. Stanev, 30, of Bridgeport, resulting in a collision, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Grant a written warning for failure to grant the right of way at an intersection. Police issued Stanev a violation for driving without a driver’s license.

Vandalism

Police report they are investigating a case of vandalism at Tilson Woods, a residential subdivision under construction in Sandy Hook. A vandal spray-painted graffiti on a sign for the development at the intersection of Pearl Street and Washington Avenue, police said. Police learned of the damage on September 23. Police ask anyone with information on the criminal mischief to contact them at 426-5841.

Turf Vandalism

Police said they received a witness’s report that Matthew DeLuca, 17, of 2 Elm Drive used a motor vehicle to damage the turf on a public athletic field at the intersection of Wasserman Way and Oakview Road on the morning of September 26. Police said DeLuca allegedly created circular damage patterns on the turf.

Police said they took DeLuca into custody at the nearby Newtown High School and then charged him with third-degree criminal mischief. Police released DeLuca into the custody of his parents for an October 7 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

High School Trespass

Tony Schick, 19, of 55 Osborn Hill Road was found on the Newtown High School grounds during school hours on September 26, police said. Police said Schick, who is not a Newtown High School student, had previously been warned in writing that he is prohibited from the school grounds. Police said they learned of Schick’s presence from high school administrators.

Police charged Schick with first degree criminal trespassing and released him on a promise to appear in Danbury Superior Court on October 9.

Mailbox Vandalism

Sometime between 2:30 pm September 19 and 1:30 pm September 20, someone placed a large sparkler in a mailbox at 82 Lakeview Terrace and ignited it, police said. Police ask anyone with information on who did the criminal mischief to contact them at 426-5841.

Church Hill Collision

Motorist Isabel Noyce, 70, of Bethel, who was driving a 2001 Nissan Altima eastward on Church Hill Road, stopped for a red traffic signal at its intersection with Commerce Road at about 1:30 pm September 28, police said.

Eastbound motorist Cynthia Coen, 23, of Bronx, N.Y., who was driving a 1997 Ford Escort, then struck the Nissan from behind, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Coen for following too closely.

Main Street Mishap

Police report that as motorist Susan H. Nielsen, 52, of 8 Glen Road was driving a 2000 Dodge Durango southward on Main Street at about 1:47 pm September 26, motorist Robert S. Grossman, 75, of 45 Mt Pleasant Road, who had been parked in a 1992 Lincoln Continental alongside the southbound road shoulder at 35 Main Street, pulled out from the parked position and collided with the passing Dodge.

There were no injuries, police said. Police issued Grossman a written warning for unsafe movement of a parked vehicle.

Turning Traffic

Motorist William Rooney, 29, of 6 West Farm Ridge Road, who was driving a 2002 Chevrolet pickup truck westward on Church Hill Road at about 7 pm September 25, was turning left into the Blue Colony Diner parking lot, when the Chevrolet collided with an eastbound 1996 Honda automobile driven by Donata Low, 23, of 326 Great Quarter Road, police report.

The Chevrolet carried three passengers. There were no injuries. Police issued Rooney a written warning for a moving violation.

Route 34 Collision

Motorist Gloria Pelletier, 43, of Portland, who was driving a 1990 Ford eastward on Route 34 at about 1:25 pm September 25, collided with the rear end of a rental trailer, which was being hauled by a 1994 International truck driven by Patrick Hale, 30, of Niantic, police said.

The impact pushed the rental trailer into the rear end of the International, police said. There were no injuries.

Hale had slowed due to road work in the area, police said. Pelletier said that her brakes failed, police added.

Police verbally warned Pelletier for following too closely.

I-84 DUI

State police report they pulled over motorist Adrian Valentin, no age given, of Waterbury at about 1:45 am September 26 on eastbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 9.

State police said that after investigating, they charged Valentin with driving under the influence and failure to drive in the established lane. After processing the arrest, state police released him on a $500 nonsurety bond for an October 6 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Driving Charges

Police report they stopped motorist Eugene Casivant, 25, of Woodbury on September 26 and charged him with speeding for driving 57 miles per hour in a 30-mph zone. Police said they also charged Casivant with driving under suspension. Police released Casivant for an October 9 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Goodwill Trailer Damaged

Sometime overnight on September 30/October 1, someone did more than $250 of damage to the rear section of the Goodwill Industries donations trailer positioned at the town’s waste transfer station on Ethan Allen Road, police report.

Police ask anyone with information on the vandalism to contact them at 426-5841.

Excavator

Police said that someone sometime between 5 pm on September 30 and 7 am on October 1 broke a window on a John Deere excavating machine that was parked at a construction site at 10 High Bridge Road in Botsford. More than $250 of damage was done. Police are asking the public for help in solving the crime.
