Mary Maye
Mary Grace (Bresson) Maye, 95, of Newtown, died September 30, at home after a lengthy battle with myasthenia gravis.
Mrs Maye was a lifetime resident of Newtown and graduated from Newtown High in 1941. After graduation, she worked for the phone company. In the early sixties, Mrs Maye and her sister Anna opened the Botsford Post Office. This was her favorite job because she loved the customers she met and the people she worked with. Mrs Maye also received several recognition awards for her work, especially with stamp collectors.
Mrs Maye’s husband, Jacques, died in 1994, and she became a driver for Meals on Wheels. She drove and volunteered at the Southbury Training School Thrift Shop for 20 years, where she made many new friends and enjoyed their company. After retiring, Mrs Maye traveled with her husband, and later, her children, to Switzerland, Europe, Hawaii, the Caribbean, and Alaska.
She was also active in St Rose of Lima Church and contributed to many of their fundraisers. Her loved ones say she will be missed by all who knew her, but they know she is back home with the love of her life, Jacques Maye.
Her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Nita Maye of Southbury; son and daughter-in-law, Jacques and Laurie of Reno; grandchildren, Lani Maye of Southbury, Jason and his wife Karen Maye of Boulder, and Mackenzie Maye of Denver, survive her.
Her parents, Fredrick and Marie, three sisters, and four brothers predeceased her.
A wake will take place Wednesday, October 3, from 4:30 to 7:30 pm, at Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home, 235 Main Street North, Southbury.
Funeral services will be Thursday, October 4, at 9 am, at Sacred Heart Church, 910 Main Street South, Southbury, with internment at St Rose Cemetery, Newtown, following the service.
