Moving Newtown Forward

To the Editor:

As vice chair of the Democratic Town Committee and Joe Hemingway’s daughter, my vote was sealed six months ago. Two events this past weekend reminded me of why the Democrats are the right ticket to support this election!

A friend shared some literature a Republican left at her house — three pieces of paper in fact — one from Pat [Llorda], one from Will [Rodgers], and one from “the team.” I guess Pat and Will aren’t part of the team. But more shocking than that was on Will’s piece he spelled out his three reasons for running. Boiled down (since there is a word limit) he says he’s running because it takes less time than Legislative Council, he already knows everything he needs to, and Pat’s running. Honestly, I want someone dedicated to giving this job all the time it needs. I want someone with innovative solutions to move us forward — not content with the status quo. I want a team player — not someone only willing to work with his party. Clearly, Will isn’t offering any of this. Will and the Republican slate don’t show they have what it takes to move us forward.

Friday night I had the opportunity to attend Family Dinner Night at Reed Intermediate School. Thanks to Newtown Parent Connection, it was a great chance to eat with my parents and not worry about whose turn it was to cook or do the dishes! There was music to enjoy, games to be played, and it was a great family atmosphere for lots of Newtown families. Unfortunately, Bruce Walczak decided to turn it into a campaign event, by rudely greeting every person coming in, despite being asked to leave. He must think that winning is more important than the good of Newtown’s families. I want a first selectman willing to put Newtown and its citizens first — not him or herself.

For me the choice is clear. It isn’t the Republicans. It isn’t IPN. They don’t have what I’m looking for in a candidate.

The Democratic ticket led by the Fetzer/Hemingway team is exactly what Newtown needs. Gary and Joe have a proven record of results — building playgrounds, painting hallways, removing eyesore buildings, and picking up trash. For Gary and Joe, it’s about real results, about making a difference and making Newtown as strong as possible. Gary and Joe know it’s not about titles, it’s about accomplishments. It’s not about political games, it’s about people…and the people of Newtown deserve better. If you’re looking for a team whose positive energy and strong communication can move Newtown forward, I strongly urge you to vote for these fantastic candidates and the rest of Team Newtown. If you want Board of Selectmen candidates who listen, who are engaged in the community, who understand team work is an essential part of Newtown being successful, these are your candidates! If you’re looking for hard work, dedication, and a commitment to putting the good of Newtown first, Gary and Joe are just what you’re looking for. Visit www.TeamNewtown.org to learn more!
