Dorothy DeFlumeri Hegarty

‘Nana Dee’ Missed By Loving Family

Dorothy DeFlumeri Hegarty, 86, died August 27, in Southbury. Mrs Hegarty was born July 2, 1923, in Plainfield, N.J. to Clarence and Minnie Meyne Fischer.

Predeceased by her husband, John, of 25 years, she was previously married to the late Vincent DeFlumeri, with whom she had four children, three of whom survive her: John DeFlumeri of Newtown, and Joan Wrede and Anne Stapleton of Los Angeles. A son, Michael DeFlumeri, predeceased Mrs Hegarty. She is also survived by a sister and a brother.

She was adored by her eight grandchildren and twin great-grandchildren and took great pleasure in their company. “Nana Dee” loved to celebrate the joys of life with family and friends.

Mrs Hegarty worked in the fashion industry in New York City and Scarsdale, N.Y., for more than 20 years.

Always game for an adventure, she particularly enjoyed “stepping out” in New York City and “hitting the surf” in Southern California. True to form, she went white water rafting in Idaho on her 80th birthday.

A memorial mass will be celebrated Saturday, October 10,  at St Rose Catholic Church, at 11 am.

Memorial donations may be made to ACS Newtown Relay for Life, PO Box 831, Newtown CT 06470.
