Bridgeport Hospital

Paul Piazza of Newtown has been named an employee of the month at Bridgeport Hospital. A pharmacist, he joined the hospital in 2002. He received a plaque, a letter of commendation, and two complementary tickets to the hospital’s 125th anniversary gala on November 1.

Danbury Hospital

Robert J. Carr, MD, has been named medical director of Primary Care of Southbury, 22 Old Waterbury Road. A native of Brookfield, Dr Carr was most recently program director at Fort Lincoln Family Medicine Center, Colmar Manor, Md., where he was responsible for all clinical services, quality management, and practice supervision. He has taught at Georgetown University, where he was also program director of the Family Practice Residency Program, and at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. Board-certified in both family practice and geriatrics, he writes extensively on family practice and residency issues and is a regular contributor to Woman’s Day magazine, where he is a member of the Health and Fitness Advisory Board.

Maureen Burnett, RN, CNRN, has been named manager of Unit Without Walls, which was created in 1997 to centralize and mange the operational activities of nursing administration at the hospital. A graduate of Norwalk Hospital School of Nursing, she is pursuing her master’s in nursing at Excelsior College. She is affiliated with the American Trauma Society and has been at Danbury Hospital in various positions since 1984.

Dana R. Buchanan, MD, MPH, has joined the New Fairfield Family Practice in New Fairfield and is affiliated with Danbury Hospital. She earned her doctor of medicine and master of public health degrees from the University of Connecticut in 1998. Board-certified in internal medicine and pediatrics, she treats both pediatric and adult patients.

New Milford Hospital

Alexis Gopal, MD, has been appointed as a hospitalist, a physician who specializes in caring for hospitalized patients, in the hospital’s new hospitalist program. She is a board-certified adult medicine specialist who previously had an active practice for five years in the Danbury officer and was the compliance officer for the Danbury Primary Care Center.

Cynthia Curiosos-Uy, MD, has been named the new director of the Center for Sleep Medicine. She is board-certified in internal medicine, pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine, and also is in private pulmonary practice at 940 Federal Road in Brookfield.

Physicians Health & Injury Center

Brian Yomtov, DC, has joined the Physicians Health & Injury Center in Danbury. He is a certified applied kinesiologist and certified personal trainer as well as a chiropractor. He received his DC degree from the National University of Health Sciences in Lombard, Ill.

UConn Health Center

Carolyn D. Runowicz, MD, a nationally recognized cancer expert, becomes the new director of the UConn Cancer Center this month. She also will serve as director of women’s health services and will see patients at the cancer center. She most recently was a professor of clinical obstetrics and gynecology at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and vice chairman of the department of obstetrics and gynecology at St Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital in New York City. The author of four books on cancer and women’s health, she is active with several national medical organizations and was the first woman president of the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists.
