Toys And Stamping At Booth Library

C.H. Booth Library has two public programs planned during the second week of October. For additional information the library can be reached by calling 426-4533. The library is at 25 Main Street.

Sandy Hook resident Jim Makowicki, a toymaker and author, will be giving a talk and demonstration on Wednesday, October 10 at 7:30 pm. Mr Makowicki has been a popular presenter in the past and will be sharing information on his latest projects which include toys especially designed for the visually impaired. He will also be demonstrating techniques helpful in making wooden puzzles.

Mr Makowicki began woodworking as a child and has been lucky enough to continue his pursuits, enriching the lives of countless children through his marvelous wooden toys. “The Little Toymaker,” as he likes to be called, also teaches and licenses his designs for production. He has written two books, Making Heirloom Toys and Marvelous Transforming Toys. Examples of Mr Makowicki’s toys will be displayed at the library all month.

Local artist Jackie Bache will be visiting the library on Thursday, October 11, at 7:30 pm, for a hands-on demonstration of stamp art in the lower meeting room. Participants will learn how to create gift cards, wrapping paper, gifts, and scrapbook pages.

Each participant will have the opportunity to make two projects, and learn the techniques for lots more. There is a small materials fee of $3 that needs to be paid prior to the start of class.
