To the Editor:

My name is Alison Plante, and I’m honored to be running for re-election to the Legislative Council from District 3 in November’s election.

My husband and I have lived in Newtown for the past 11 years. We’re raising our three kids here (ages 7, 5, and 2), and my husband operates a small business in town. I’m a member of the Middle Gate PTA and a proud Girl Scout leader. We feel very lucky to be a part of this community and to have made so many lifelong friends. Being here during the pandemic made me fall in love with Newtown all over again — from enjoying our beautiful parks and open spaces, to sampling takeout from as many local restaurants as possible, to experiencing how the school communities and teachers cared for our children and maintained some normalcy during an otherwise chaotic time.

I was elected to the Council in 2019. I served as vice chair of the Finance and Administration Subcommittee, and was also a member of the Education Subcommittee. I’m proud to have played a part in the important work that the council has done over the past two years, including keeping taxes flat, approving incentives to bring businesses (and jobs) into town, and most recently, supporting public health measures to protect our most vulnerable and youngest community members when Covid-19 cases were on the rise.

I’ve worked hard over the past two years to learn and immerse myself in how the town operates. I’ve spent hours digging deep into proposed budgets, the town’s Capital Improvement Plan, and numerous municipal policies.

I’ve asked probing questions to ensure that we’re doing as much good for as many residents as possible. If re-elected, I pledge to continue putting in the hard work and preparation to understand the issues facing our community. With the benefit of experience, I believe I can contribute even more in the upcoming two years to help make our community an even better place to live, work, and raise our families.

Please remember to get out and vote on November 2! I hope to have your support for re-election to the Legislative Council from District 3.

Sincerely,

Alison Plante
