Upset With The Board of Education
Upset With The Board of Education
To the Editor:
I have lived in Newtown for 18 years. I was excited to have children and have them attend Newtown schools. Now I am thoroughly upset with the recent events that have transpired with the school system (i.e. the elimination of EAâs, CMT test scores, and not renewing the owner-operators contracts).
The Board of Education is supposed to be there for the town of Newtown. In this regard, they have failed miserably. Many people are getting pay cuts and no raises and losing their jobs. Everyone is struggling. Yet the BOE renewed contracts and they received raises. Is that helping Newtown? With the All-Star contract they say they will save us money. Will that be the case when they need more money and go on strike? If you figured it out over five years with the owner operaters, the cost would be approximately $20 a year per family.
I feel the BOE made a big mistake choosing All-Star. With election day coming up letâs see what happens. Letâs see who is in and see who is out. I hope there will be big changes in the BOE that will have positive changes for the people of Newtown and our children.Â
