Sheila Ellen

Kolesar

Captured Hearts And Minds Of Numerous Newtown Students

Sheila Ellen (Mackro) Kolesar, 65, of Monroe, wife of James S. Kolesar, died peacefully, September 26, at St Vincent’s Medical Center, surrounded by her loved ones. A lifelong resident of Monroe, she was born February 21, 1946, to Virginia and August Mackro.

Mrs Kolesar graduated from Cardinal Cushing College in Boston with a degree in American literature, and received a master’s in teaching from the University of Bridgeport. She was employed with the Newtown Board of Education for 35 years, and was an extraordinary educator within the Newtown school system.

Following her retirement, Mrs Kolesar spent time traveling with her husband, practicing yoga, and shopping with friends and daughters. She was active in many organizations, including the Monroe Historical Society, American Association of University Women, garden club, and various book clubs.

Ever devoted to her family, friends, and students, Mrs Kolesar illuminated every situation with her quick wit, fashion flair, and generous heart. She was greeted by appreciative former students wherever she went.

In addition to her husband of 41 years, she is also survived by her two daughters, Emily Kolesar Fowkes and Brian Fowkes of Manhattan, Kan., and Sarah Kolesar and George Waldbusser of Corvallis, Ore.; a brother, Jay Mackro and Catherine Kusnick of San Juan Capistrano, Calif.; many other relatives, including several “sisters-at-heart” cousins; and her grandcats, granddog, and grandchickens.

Funeral services took place September 29. Burial followed at the Stepney Cemetery.
