NHS Honor Society Inductees Recognized

The Newtown Chapter of the National Honor Society held its annual Induction Ceremonies event at Newtown High School on Monday, September 27.

The society adds deserving students to its ranks each year through a night of ceremonies. This year’s inductees were Kate Bartel, Erin Begg, Lydia Beiter, Erin Bell, Emma Briscoe, Melissa Buccino.Kristen Campbell, Reagan Cerney, Colby Chilson, Kiera Cohane, Colleen Cosgrove, Neil Davis, Meaghan Davis, Natalie Dieckman, Rachel DiVanno, Maria Dutsar, Zoe Eggleston, Lauren Frazzetta, Joshua Goldman, Michelle Green, Anna Grillo, Brianna Hart, Anna Hodge, Laura Hunter, Evan Isaacs, Rachel Karnoff, Erin Kenning, Caroline Kingsley, Heather Leone, Jessica Lynch, Vikram Makayee, Sheridan Marmo, Sally Martinelli, Ashley Meisenheimer, Patrick Milano, Kyra Murray, Shannon O’Gorman, Kelly O’Sullivan, Leah Pinckney, Christopher Robinson, Stephanie Roman, Shradha Sahani, Nicholas Shannon, Samantha Steimle, Taylor Steimle, David Swigart, Julia Trudell, and Mary Vodola

The night’s events included NHS Assistant Principal Jason Hiruo welcomed all in attendance, the Newtown High School orchestra played for the stage of the high school auditorium, NHS Principal Charles Dumais gave opening remarks, and NHS Honor Society President Marina Lleonart-Calvo giving the president’s address.

Marina said as the president of the high school Honor Society she represented one student out of a group of students that are working to better the school.

“Our goal,” she said, “is to make a difference, not only in the school, community, or state but to positively impact those that are not even aware of our organization.”

Marina also said the society could not accomplish its goals without the support of the community, and gave special thanks to National Honor Society co-advisors Tom Brant and Cathy Ostar, Mr Dumais, Mr Hiruo, the NHS orchestra, and all those involved with the society.
