Lions Club: 'The Great Pumpkin Race Getting Ready To Roll'
Lions Club: âThe Great Pumpkin Race Getting Ready To Rollâ
What can you do with pumpkins? There is always carving them or making a nice pumpkin pie (or ice cream, if youâre really ambitious) from them.
Newtown residents also learned last year that it is also possible to make a pumpkin racer and participate in The Great Pumpkin Race. Newtown Lions Club will host the Second Annual Great Pumpkin Race on Saturday, October 29, in the parking lot behind Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street. The event is scheduled to run from 11 am to 2 pm. Rain date is October 30.
The idea is to have pumpkins on wheels compete with each other in speeding down a hill. Races will be arranged by age category.  Â
For those who cannot engineer a pumpkin that will stay on the wheels, Lions Club engineers will have a limited number for sale the day of the event.
In addition to the races there will be decorated pumpkin contests (funniest, scariest and best decorated), pumpkin and apple pie contests, and a medieval style trebuchet will be ready to fire pumpkins into the field.
Additional events are expected to be announced by the day of the event. For additional information call Gordon Williams at 203-426-6443.Â
