Found Greatest Joy
In Family
Ethel M. Fowler, 87, of Norwich, wife of Lawrence J. Fowler, Sr, died September 21, at the William W. Backus Hospital. Born in Elizabeth, N.J., April 18, 1924, she was the daughter of Edna (Allen) and Lafayette Johnson.
In addition to her husband, four children, including Sharon Goodkowsky, and her partner Vincent Napoleone, of Newtown; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; her sister Edna Fanning; and many loving nieces and nephews survive Mrs Fowler.
During World War II, while she was involved with the USO, she met Lawrence J. Fowler at a dance at Fort Devens, Mass. They were married on August 17, 1946, and were blessed with a wonderful, loving marriage for 65 years.
Mrs Fowler was retired from Connecticut College in New London, where she worked for many years as a house mother in one of the dormitories.
She enjoyed being a part of the Womenâs Wednesday Morning League at the Norwich Bowling and Entertainment Center in Norwich. She was also a sports fan who enjoyed watching the UConn basketball teams and was a die-hard Boston Red Sox fan. Her greatest joy, though, came from being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
A funeral service took place September 26. Burial was in Maplewood Cemetery, Norwich.
Donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 238 West Town Street, Norwich CT 06360, or at cancer.org.
