Monroe 10, Newtown Greys 3: Ben Grenier came in to pitch at the last minute and kept Newtown Greys in the game in the early going and William Swift pitched a scoreless sixth. Ben also went one for two with a walk and two stolen bases in the loss. Other notable performances include Brendan Smith and William Swift who went 4 for 7 with two stolen bases. Defensively, James Tibolla provided a strong performance behind the plate.
Team Petersen 10, Green Machine 9: A wild one on the diamond as Team Petersen out lasted Team Hurley. Patrick Hurley had a grand slam to keep the game tight.
Rios Reds 5, Wizards 4: A tight game for four innings as the Red held a one-run lead over the Wizards. The Reds jumped on top 1-0 before Reds erupted for five runs in the top of the fifth inning, led by Bobby Elstonâs clutch single. The Wizards clawed back to score three runs in the bottom of the fifth but came up short as both teams had a scoreless last inning, led by Reds pitcher Bobby Elston. For the Reds, Jack Sullivan and Ryan Mcnerney made outstanding catches out in the field to protect the lead. Shea Talbot, Daniel Pond, James Mok, Stephen Dooley played well. For the Wizards, Sam Eppers pitched well striking out four batters in his two innings of relief. Ben Albee pitched a solid two innings and had two hits, including a booming double. Kierran Coffey made a nice catch at third and Kyle Milks was solid behind the plate.
Team Via 6, Monroe 0: Team Via put up the first shutout of the season behind strong pitching by John Godino, James Schumacher and Andrew Via. The offensive star of the game went to James Schumacher who went three for three with two doubles and a triple and five RBI.
Blue Dragons 14, Southbury 7: The Blue Dragons brought their bats to the game, pounding out nine hits, led by Ryan Kovach, who was two for three, with three runs scored and a RBI. Will Archiere had two hard singles and two RBI. Liam Murphy had a long triple to left field. Luke Galer had a hit and three runs scored. James Malin had a hit and two runs scored and Max Hubner got a key sacrifice to start the scoring in what turned out to be a five-run third inning. He also scored two runs. Carter Tagliarine and Tyler Fuori had a single and two RBI. The defensive play of the game came when James Malin ran down a deep ball in the gap with a long relay throw to Tyler Fuori who put a sweeping tag on the runner for the 8-2 put out. Liam Murphy had another strong outing on the mound giving up only two runs in two innings pitched. Tyler Fuori fanned all six batters he faced to close out the game.
Team Petersen 10, Newtown Greys 2: Team Petersen had a strong offensive effort erupted for four runs in the fifth inning breaking open a close game. Todd Petersen closed out the game by pitched two scoreless innings of relief. For the Newtown Greys, hitting standouts included Kyle Nickolson two for two Brenden Smith one for two with a walk, Bryan Bailey one for two, James Tibolla and William Swift who went one for three. Smith also provided a strong pitching performance, getting out of a bases-loaded jam with three strikeouts in a row. Kyle Nicholaon tallied six strikeouts in the two innings he pitched. James Tibolla and Joseph Pagett were the defensive standouts with solid defense support behind the plate.
Purple Crush 6, Green Machine 0: For the Green Machine, Patrick Hurley pitched two no-hit innings, striking out five, and Jake Kneski turned a sparkling unassisted double play at third base. The Green Machine had a tough day at the plate with the Purple Crush pitchers Trevor Tyrrell, Ben Talbot, & Luke Azzerito, holding the Green Machine to only one hit.
11â12-Year-Olds
Blue Lightning 6, Orange Flames 1: Robert Hutchins extinguished the Flames with his fine pitching and multihit game. Dylan Champagne also pitched well and hit well for the Lightning.
Classics 9, The Apprentice 5: Ben Dieckman hit two home runs to lead the Classics and Jack Bittman singled home the go-ahead run. Jack Whelan and Sam Kapur continued to pitch masterfully for the Classics. Tim Davis made an outstanding grab and the hitting of Ethan Aug and Jason Hebner kept the game close for the Apprentice.
Purple Ponyos 14, Wizards 4: Jeffrey Klein and Thomas Stansyck continue to hit well and Adam Wolff keeps throwing masterful innings for the undefeated Ponyos. The Wizards were led by Eugene Citrano with two hits
Hurricanes 3, Hammers 1: In the closest game of the season, Rhett Saunders nailed down the victory for the Hurricanes. Eric Hrabczakâs perfect bunt led to a few runs that helped the Hurricanes overcome the Hammers.
Blue Devils 6, Geckos 3: Robbie Lombardo, Robbie Laporta and Adam Beckett combined for 14 strikeouts to lead the undefeated Blue devils to victory, setting up this weekends matchup against the undefeated Ponyos. Jamie Hobar had a double while Liam Begany, Wes Scriven, and Adam Bergeron pitched well for the Geckos
U15 Division
Pomperaug 5, Newtown Blue 2: Newtownâs normally stellar defense was uncharacteristically porous as errors led to all five Pomperaug runs. Dan Harrison pitched a hitless first inning, striking out the side. Andrew Ross added two hitless innings and also singled at the plate. Jack Procaccini went two for three with a double and run scored, while Virgil Procaccini also doubled and scored the other Newtown run. Jake Simonson and Brandon OâSullivan rounded out the offense with singles.
Newtown Blue 14, New Milford 6: The Newtown Blue got back on the winning track with a convincing 14-6 victory over New Milford. Andrew Ross gave up only one earned run in three innings to pick up the win. Nick Randle pitched two innings and went two for three at the plate, including two RBIs and two runs scored. Will Swain also went two for three with two runs scored and an RBI. Pat Pierce, Dan Harrison, Eli Klorczyk, and Sam Czel added the powering hitting, each with long doubles. Czel also had two RBI and came on to pitch a dominant seventh inning, retiring the side in order to secure the victory. Brandon OâSullivan, Jack Procaccini, and Virgil Procaccini each added base hits to help pace the Newtown offensive attack.
Newtown Blue 5, Brookfield 4: Newtown Blue improved to 4-1 on the season with a 5-4 victory over Brookfield in U15 baseball action. The Newtown offense was held in check by Brookfield, but Newtown was able to capitalize on some fielding errors to escape with the one run victory. Jack Procaccini, Virgil Procaccini, Sam Czel, and Nick Randle all singled in the game. Given the limited number of base runners, Newtown turned to the running game to manufacture some offense. Newtown stole nine bases and the aggressive running attack helped cause some key errors, allowing Newtown to earn the win. Nick Randle scored two of the five runs and Jake Simonson totaled three stolen bases and a run scored. Holden Turk made his pitching debut and held Brookfield scoreless in his inning of work. Sam Czel pitched two innings, allowing only one single and no runs to earn the win, while Will Swain came on in the seventh to close out the game and pick up the save. Shawn Cerreta played outstanding defense at second base with an assist and a putout and very nearly completed an inning ending double play.

Newtown Lightning 12 Trumbull 1: Jon Hull hurled five shutout innings, and Newtownâs offense exploded for ten hits Monday at Trumbullâs Unity Park. The win upped the Lightningâs fall record to 5-2. Hull completely dominated Trumbull, yielding just one infield single and two walks while striking out nine over five innings. Mired in an early-season batting slump, Newtown scored at least one run every inning, including six runs in the sixth inning and invoking the ten-run mercy rule. Chris Tenney, Wyatt Depuy, and Brandon Cooper led the offensive attack. Tenney sliced a third-inning triple down the right field line and scored two runs. Depuy, who leads the team in RBI, knocked in two runs and scored three runs. Cooper launched a deep RBI double to right center and later a two-RBI check-swing single to right field. Cooper, Hull, and Kyle Wilcox each scored two runs for the victors. Newtownâs Eric Pisani blasted the longest hit of the night, crushing a towering RBI double to left center that closed out the local clubâs scoring in the sixth inning. Pisani also pitched the final inning on the mound, yielding one unearned run.
Brookfield 4, Newtown Lightning 0: Brookfield High Schoolâs Jeff Faber threw a two-hitter and blanked the Lightning Saturday at Brookfieldâs Huckleberry Field. The Lightningâs only hits were singles by Ryan Pisani and Troy Larsen. The only other Lightning hitters to reach base were Eric Pisani and Kyle Wilcox, who both walked. Wilcox crushed what appeared to be a triple over the right fielderâs head in the fifth inning, but was called out for not touching first base. Dean Demers pitched the first four innings for Newtown, yielding three unearned runs and five hits to the varsity-filled Brookfield team. Newtownâs Austin Bonadio pitched the final two innings, giving up one unearned run and two hits. Newtown outfielders Nick Heron and Wyatt Depuy each made diving catches. Demers made an acrobatic play at shortstop in the sixth inning, diving to his left to stop the ball and throwing from his knees to first base for the out. The Lightning resume league play Saturday, October 1, at Danburyâs Rogers Park before returning home Sunday for a noon game at Fairfield Hills Field.
