The Newtown Bridle Lands Association has begun its trail clearing program to prepare for the upcoming Frost on the Pumpkin Hunter Pace.

The first trail clearing was held Saturday, September 17. The group met at the Mount Nebo Road pace field, partook in some coffee, donuts and conversation, and then split up into two smaller groups to tackle two separate sections of the trail.

One group went to the Newtown Forest Preserve on Maltbe Road and cleared, trimmed, and even created a new jump and go around. The other group concentrated on the trail that runs along Phyllis Lane and the Andalusian Farm where it chopped, cleared, weed whacked and got a lesson or two in the intricacies of grape vine formation and its tenacity.

Everyone worked hard and thanks to having so many volunteers, the work went quickly.

Those who volunteered their time, muscle and talent include Lenore McCauliffe, Warren Davis, Dee Davis, Sue Hamilton, Terry Hennessey, Brian “Chain Saw” Hennessey, Andrea Brosnan, Sarah Brooks,  Maggie the chocolate Lab, Crystal Kormanik and Lori Kucky.

The next trail clearing is scheduled for Saturday, October 1, at 9 am. Anyone interested in helping out can meet at that time. Remember, the funds raised through the Pace are used to maintain and preserve local trails.

No experience necessary as on the job training is provided through several well experienced coaches.  For more information or to volunteer with the trail clearings call Dee Davis at 426-7032.
