Keep Newtown Walking

To the Editor:

The Second Annual Pumpkin Walk held during the Newtown Health Fair last Saturday was a big success! Ninety walkers raised hundreds of dollars for this year’s chosen charity, The Newtown Fund. Everyone showed how important walking is for good health.

The Parks and Recreation Department and Health Fair Committee are now cosponsoring this yearly walk. With the tireless help of co-chair Rose Ann Reggiano, Parks and Recreation supervisor, this event was a huge success. A special thank you to all the volunteers during the walk, Chartwell, Coca-Cola, Big Y, Stop & Shop, and Bagel Delight for their food donations, and the Police Department for keeping our walkers safe.

As I look toward the future, I envision a paved walking trail at Fairfield Hills property to promote a safe area for all Newtowners to walk. Let’s keep Newtown walking!

See you next year for the next Pumpkin Walk, helping another local charity!

Keep walking for good health,

Dr Della Schmid
